Daniel Kerbal, Head Teacher of North West London Jewish Day School writes about his experience of being involved in the Shared Futures link day. .

"One of my proudest and most fulfilling moments of being a Head Teacher has been the Shared Futures link days. As usual the connection came through a chance meeting at a Head’s forum whereby the Head of Christchurch CoE and myself realised that we were within walking distance of each other. This led to a request for myself to present an assembly to Christchurch on Pesach which turned into our Yr 6 Choir singing Pesach songs for Christchurch School and our Head of Kodesh (Jewish Studies) Rabbi Broder leading a Q & A session for the children.

I have always harboured a desire to increase interfaith respect and tolerance and through a visit to a Pears Foundation Social Action training day met Debbie from the 3ff. This led to discussion and behind the scenes research on my part. Eventually the Shared Futures program was mooted and our obvious choice as a partner school was Christchurch.

We have had 4 days so far. The topics have been Christmas, Chanukah, Purim and Easter and the days have focussed on presentations from the children on how they celebrate the festivals. We have also had the very valuable services of Valerie who has coordinated excellent ice-breaker games and then the children have enjoyed arts and crafts relating to the festivals.

It has been an inspirational experience to watch the children speak with pride about their own identities whilst respecting and learning about other children and as with all children, they have loved the games."
