Faith has never been an important factor in my life. I blame my parents for their lack of understanding. In any case, my soul was taking a down turn when I decided to take a break from my usual life and intern in London with the Three Faiths Forum. Straightaway, I began to question my decision. I don’t know the first thing about God, how was I going to pull off working for a faith-based organization?

However, during my work I have come to realize that the Three Faiths Forum is so much more than an interfaith organization. It is an initiative to create positive change in all aspects of community life. In essence, it is the desire to attain and spread happiness, the most basic of human needs. I treasure my time spent at the Three Faiths Forum because it has made me confront my prejudices, and pre-conceived notions about everyone I consider different.

Since we are on the subject of being opinionated, I will let you in on my opinion of the Three Faiths Forum staff. They are the weirdest bunch of people you will ever meet in your life. Bursting with positivity and optimism, they have got the power to make anyone feel good about themselves. Perhaps they will not all agree with me but I admire them most for their patience. I cannot imagine having a more brutal profession than being an agent for social change via interfaith dialogue, especially at a time when conflicts over faith are fueling bitterness and resentment all over the world.

On this theme of patience, I want to conclude with the note:

Patient I am, Strong I am not
Strong I am, Happy I am not
Happy I am, laughing I am not
Laughing I am, At peace I am not
At peace I am, Standing still I am not
Standing still I am, Alone I am not
Alone I am, but scared I am not
Scared I am, but praying I am not
Praying I am, but patient I am not.
