My experience Interning at the Three Faiths Forum

My first impression of the Forum was a most memorable one. In itself, it is a working example of interfaith in action; the staff all come from differing religious and cultural backgrounds but do share one common trait – they are all passionate about their work. Such enthusiasm proved wholly contagious.

I had never really thought of faith relations as important before, but working at the Forum really opened my eyes to how much work is being done, and must be done, to foster religious cohesion as a means to greater understanding and tolerance in communities and wider society.

My work here was a broad insight into the monumental effort required to run and organisation of this calibre. I was also involved in helping to organise an event, at the US Embassy, for the Undergraduate PaliaMentors Programme. My role in this project was to help with invitations, designing a banner and also getting in contact with potential speakers. Regarding the latter, we were very fortunate to get Jon Sopel to give a talk on “Faith, Politics and Media”.

I have really enjoyed my time here and have found the work very fulfilling. At first I was apprehensive of what it would be like. I had only recently come back from a ten week stay in Jerusalem working for a Palestinian peace-NGO and was quite nervous about how my sensitivities might play out in such a cosmopolitan environment. However, everyone was incredibly tolerant and open. I hope that my work for the Forum was as useful for my colleagues as the opportunity to work there was for me, I know I certainly felt a small part of something much more important and worthwhile.
