Introduction by participants

We chose music as the medium to express something about the project that we have been part of over the last 6 months. To begin with we used the time to brainstorm various ideas. We were looking at issues such as:

“What I care about most as a young person”

“ How the media portrays me as a young person”

“Issues of world and global crisis and disaster”

“Environmental concerns.”

Once we had the ideas, they had to be distilled in to phrases that would then be further worked upon to produce rhymes and verses that we could then put to music.

Our song needed a title and so between us we came up with 10 different titles and then voted on them – the title with the most votes was then agreed upon.

Once we had the title “ These hands of mine”, Richard from Polygon Arts gave us a number of ideas about the kind of tune that we could choose as the medium for our words.

We began with the chorus and then the verses came together.

Here is our song:

These Hands of mine

Look at the world and how its burning

Look at the way we’re still not learning

Can’t help the fact we’re just not trying hard enough

Maybe it’s time to come together

Think of a way to make things better

Look at the facts, I know that we are good enough

No better time to start than now

To do nothing at all

If someone’s in trouble, I’ll help them through it

Whatever you need I’m there I’ll do it

So many people are lost and worried

So many people in a rush, in a hurry
