Senior MPs sign up to mentor the leaders of the future as the Undergraduate ParliaMentors Programme moves into its second year.
This week the UP programme kick-started its second year with a Question Time session in the House of Commons, made up of a panel of political experts and MPs including Dawn Butler, Simon Hughes and Lynne Featherstone.
Speaking at the launch, Sadiq Khan MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Communities and Local Government praised the programme, saying,
“Undergraduate ParliaMentors is a fantastic initiative, and I want to congratulate the Three Faiths Forum for all their work in co-ordinating such a significant project, and also thank them for inviting me to get involved with it. By arranging for the ParliaMentors to engage with senior politicians, young adults of faith are having their views and opinions heard at the very heart of government – something I think to be vitally important in the way we shape British politics in the twenty-first century. Many politicians use the teachings of their faith to guide them through the world of politics, and I have no doubt that this year’s class will go on to play important roles in the future – both in their local communities, and maybe even on the national or international stage.”
