Voteclash
Thursday 12th November - 7 pm
Does charity begin at home, or do we have a duty to the world’s most vulnerable wherever they may be? In the wake of the financial crisis, Voteclash comes to City University London to challenge the debate around priorities and responsibility at a time of global need. Introducing senior economists alongside representatives from the major international NGOs, the debate will ask “Should we sort ourselves out before saving the world?”
Arguing for the Home side, Dr Jan Toporowski, Head of Economics Dept at SOAS and Alan Shipman of the Open University. Representing Away, Stacey Adams, Chief Executive of Raleigh International, and Martin Kirk, Head of UK Campaigns at Oxfam UK. The debate will also engage the audience through key challenges, responses and a live text message poll.
Voteclash is a dynamic live debating platform engaging young people in the most topical and critical issues of our time. On and offline debates provide a unique space for future leaders, young professionals, students and marginalised voices to have their say, challenge each other and share perspectives on politics, culture, society and ethics.
This one-off event is supported by the Three Faiths Forum and Coexistence Trust to encourage open debate on university campuses and with early career professionals.
