Three Faiths Forum Statement on the Crisis in the Middle East
The Three Faiths Forum, linking the three Abrahamic faiths at every level and across all age groups, feels the pain and frustration of Israelis and Palestinians as they pass through this dreadful time of armed conflict.
We look to both sides to find the moral strength and courage to bring speedily an end to the killing and to return to the search for peace which both peoples so desperately need and deserve.
For our part, we are resolved not to be deflected from the path of constructive dialogue which has so positively set the tone for faith relations in this country, and we will continue to do everything within our power to encourage the use of dialogue over conflict in the Middle East.
A Note from our Director, Stephen Shashoua
At this time of turmoil and tragedy, we all feel the pull towards the security offered by our own communities. However, this is the time to act positively by engaging in dialogue and positive social action.
If we do not acknowledge these difficulties, we will not be treating each other honestly and will not move forward together. We must find a way to communicate effectively and rationally for the sake of the relationships between our communities.
In these troubled times it is difficult to hope for unanimity or unus animus, but we must see where we can be of ‘one mind’. I contend that we in the UK all wish to live our lives in harmony with our neighbours. This is not our only ideal, but indeed something from which to grow.
We must speak as British Muslims, Christians, and Jews about how the conflict affects us and our communities. I do urge you to get in touch with the Three Faiths Forum and to become part of this conversation.
