Three Faiths Forum response to Board of Deputies of British Jews "Communities in Conversation" Report

The Three Faiths Forum welcomes the publication by the Board of Deputies of British Jews of the report “Communities in Conversation.” While it illustrates that there is, indeed, much interfaith/intercommunity activity – involving 77 per cent of synagogues – there is need to create a wider range of such activities and to extend involvement beyond the leadership into the broader community.

The Three Faiths Forum is happy to be acknowledged as an asset in the fields of education and resourcing. We support the call in the report for facilitator training and additional resources. The report's reach and data is, for the most part, focusing on the involvement of synagogue members and would welcome further research looking at the wider community, preferably with an emphasis on its young people.

From our own perspective, the communal approach to interfaith/intercommunity activities seems to be divided among those willing to engage wholeheartedly, those willing to engage but with some reservations, and a small minority unwilling or unable to engage at all. Community leaders are showing the way and we fully support the Board of Deputies and others who seek to make interfaith work “a normal part of grassroots' Jewish involvement.”
